Looking at prices for OM617 engines online and lots of these are going for more than anyone would ever pay for my ENTIRE CAR with its worn interior and badly dented door nobody is interested in buying the complete vehicle as you can find much b etter condition 300ds than mine for $1800-$ 2000 all day but I’m seeing between $ 1000- $1800 for the long block only not even including the rare and expensive injection pump! My engine makes great compression, if I pulled it along with the turbo, injection pump and all the accessories and reinstalled my emissions equipment as well as give it a deep exterior cleaning I could probably fund an interesting swap and end up with a better overall vehicle. People love putting in these 4runners and land cruisers. The only question is what would I put in for that budget?

Even a high mileage junkyard iron block would double my horsepower and torque and give me a third pedal

This is the kind of idea we all come to Oppo for.

I also troll Hipsters on CL with my motorcycle. I’ll list my $1k vintage Honda for $3-4k amd get hits every now and then.
If I ever find a piece of shit worthy of owning this thing I may consider selling it.

Last week I got someone to pay $300 for my non running absolute basket case vintage Honda. I got it for $100, put the wiring harness back together for a grand total of 3 hours and $0 and decided I didn’t have the money to finish the project. It sold for $300 within 2 hours of my posting the ad. I love this kind of scumbaggery

This is very interesting, it would be unique and badass I like the way you think. Still slow but unkillable and infinitely cooler than an LS

An LS or SBC seems too normal a swap. I think you need to go weird. 2JZ? No, weirder. KA24DET? Maybe? Could be weirder. Rotary? We can go weirder. For it to be truly weird and cool, it has to work, but not be logical, economical, efficient, or appropriate in any way. I propose turbocharged 2-stroke 3 pot Saab swap. Ditch the carburetors and throw some fuel injection on there. But mechanical fuel injection.

I’ve heard of people swapping in OM606's. Great engine. I imagine its gotta almost bolt in-decent power-I know someone with a cranked up pump and big turbo making 650 hp in a drift car ( on a totally stock motor!) They rev to 6k-and no rattle!

Wow that does seem expensive, my 300D has about 125k. I will be needing a new tranny at some point, that’s my next big thing, rebuilt tranny is around $2k. But it’s hanging in there, original tranny. And why do they keep the EGR on there, yuck.

You can also get turbo variants. Two stroke baby Screamin Jimmy FTW.

That egr is hard to get rid of because of that flex pipe that goes directly into the exhaust manifold. Can You please mail me your drivers side rear door? Our cars are the same color and I’m having a hell of a time finding a replacement door

Yo u just get the cap off kit and it takes five minutes, no more EGR. I don’t have tge side pinstripe on my car so if you do it won’t match anyway!

I just removed the gasket between the valve and the intake manifold and cut a section of an Arizona iced tea can into the same shape and swapped them out it seals fine
